Timetable for Assessment

The following is a guide to the timetable of events from a request for assessment to the final Statement being issued.

6 weeks

The Children and Young People and Families Service receive a request for assessment and decide whether or not to carry out a Statutory Assessment. If the Local Authority agree to a Statutory Assessment they should adhere to the following timescale.

10 weeks

The Children and Young People and Families Service seek advice from all the parties involved with the child and decide whether or not to make the Statement of Special Educational Needs.

2 weeks

The Children and Young people and Families Service either issue the proposed Statement or explain their decision not to make a Statement and may issue a Note In Lieu.

8 weeks

The proposed (or draft) Statement will be sent to you. You have the opportunity at this stage to give your views on the proposed Statement. The final Statement will then be issued. The Parent Partnership Service can help you with any amendments you may wish to make. At the end of the eight week period the final Statement will be issued.
